Well Done!
Y10 Football
Congratulations to the Wombwell High School year 10 football squad who reached the final of the Barnsley Schools Cup for the third year running. Unfortunately the team lost 1-0 to Shafton ALC in the final but all the Wombwell lads were a credit to themselves and the school in all the games played this year.
Well Done Everyone!
Y8 Football Result
It was a compelling end to end game.
The first half ended 2-2, although Holgate showed more dominance on the ball. Luis Wardle struck an excellent long range effort, whilst Callum Whelan slotted a rightly awarded penalty.
The second half was somewhat of a stalemate, with Wombwell looking the more impressive. The real chances came in the last 10 minutes where Wombwell penetrated, only to be denied once by a goal-line intervention by a keeper, and the second time by a goal mouth scrap that included three on target shots.
With penalties looming Holgate surged into the Wombwell box. A pass fed their impressive striker who poked the ball into the back of the net. With a minute remaining Wombwell managed one final assault, however this ended in vain. Final Score 2-3.
The boys played well, and did Wombwell proud. Many of the players fought tirelessly for the ball. Of specific note were Aiden White (man of the match) for holding together the central defence and Luis Wardle for pursuing every ball and creating many of the opportunities.
It is a first defeat for this side, so no doubt a huge disappointment. They did well and on the day it was fate not skill that won over. Next year, in the new strip, I’m sure they’ll come bouncing back.

On Tuesday 20th March our Year 7 girls competed in the Barnsley Year 7 Netball Tournament at Carlton Community College. After a tough round of games we came 5th out of 7 schools overall – a good result as we were a player short and down to 5 in the last game due to injury!! A massive well done to the following girls who put in an excellent performance!

Staff Masterchef
We had some awesome food prepared and delivered today, 2 amazing BBQ platters, very posh fish and chips, a mexican extravaganza and a jamaican goat curry with all the trimmings. We have a very worthy winner – the master chef title 2012 went to Hannah Hudson-Lee – her unique slant on a rabbit pie surprised everyone, it looked fabulous and tasted even better. Many congratulations!
