GCSE Crime Squad!

Year 11 pupils have been creating their own ideas for a TV crime show! This is their exam subject and they have split into groups to produce a pitch for a show that will be shown between 9 and 10pm on ITV.

To help them get into role all pupils and Mrs Moffatt have police-style moustaches!

Pupils have created characters, episodes and an advert to market their ideas. They have used media codes and conventions that would typically be found in a crime drama, however, they have also tried to have a unique selling point and target audience.

Here are some of the programme names:
Behind the Eyes
Sirens
Run the Line
Discovery
After Dark
DI Stained
Written in Blood
The Mean Streets
Wight Lies
Suburban Murders
What Lies Beneath

Click here to read the HMI Ofsted report

Wombwell High School was placed in Special Measures in October 2010 and we had 3 monitoring
visits from Her Majesty’s Inspectors: (1-2 February 2011, 18-19 May 2011, 5-6 October 2011).
One would expect 5 or 6 visits before they would consider removal from Special Measures, but we
were judged to have made “Good” progress in all categories at the October visit (the best a school
can do) and we were hopeful that the 4th visit, this visit, would see our school out of Special
Measures and looking forward to the move into the new ALC from a position of confidence and
strength. I am pleased to say that HMI agreed and concluded that Wombwell High School is now
good enough to be removed from Special Measures and this they confirmed, officially, on 25th January 2012.

In October 2010 our school deserved to be placed in Special Measures and we now richly deserve
to no longer be in that category. We have achieved this tremendous improvement in record time
and everybody involved has every right to feel proud of our progress and success. No stars, just a
superb team – parents, students and staff. Whatever we have done we have done together and it
has been a privilege to be a part of the whole venture.
