“When I was 6 years old, I played for Hoyland Common Falcons.   I was playing in a tournament for them and Manchester United got my details and asked me to go and train with them.  I trained with them for 2 years until I was 9, old enough to sign a contract.  I am thirteen and still playing for them.

I now stay over on a Sunday and go to Ashton-on-Mersey to train”.

Wednesday 14^th December hosted the first Staff v Pupil Volleyball match. The Year 11 GCSE girls got off to a good start winning their first two games but after getting warmed up the staff came back fighting to win 3-2 overall! A massive thank you to Claire James, Jaydene Whitfield, Laurel Tadajewski, Sammy Pearce, Lauren Howell and Chloe Herbert. Also a huge thank you to Mrs Moffatt, Miss Bannister, Ms Haines and the Girls PE department. Not forgetting our willing umpire Mr Fletcher, thank-you for stopping a fight breaking out between teams!!

Street Dance Tuesday 29th November, 6th and 13th December, 10th, 17th and 24th January 3 – 4 pm in the girls gym. Fully qualified dance teacher from ‘Steppin’ Time Dance School’. Open to all pupils in Years 7,8 and 9. £1.00 per session.

Well done to our Y10 Netball team for coming 2^nd in the Barnsley Schools Tournament on Tuesday 11^th October.  The team consisted of Abbie Gawthorpe (Captain), Stacey Speight, Sammy Rowson, Holly Taylor, Georgia Clayton, Ellie Patterson, Georgia Levitt, Elsie Hargate, Carla Law and Hannah Stubbings.  They all played incredibly well, despite cold and miserable weather conditions, only losing one of their games to the tournament winners Holgate.

Congratulations to Regan Wild and Callum Whelan on being selected to join Sheffield Wednesday and Manchester United Football Academies.

Skiing at XSCAPE

Fantastic fun was had by 40 pupils and accompanied by 6 staff at Xscape near Castleford.

The party attended for 6 weeks in the Summer term.

Courses in both Snowboarding and Skiing were undertaken; not without incident, falls and a great deal of laughter!!!
